Ghana Premier League joint-leaders Asante Kotoko have condemned the violent attacks that characterised their Matchday 19 encounter at Nsoatreman FC.

The Porcupine Warriors lost 1-0 at the Prof Amoah Koramansah II Park but reported of suffering violence unleashed by the home fans.

“Unfortunately, the actions of the home crowd throughout the match were completely unacceptable,” Kotoko said in a statement after the game.

“Missiles were thrown at our bench on multiple occasions, creating an unsafe environment for our players and officials.”

The club narrated how laptops, communication devices and other audio-visual gadgets were destroyed during the chaos.

The situation led to three players including Asante Kotoko’s Justice Blay and Mohammed Camara sent off.

“Additionally, in a shocking act of aggression, some supporters invaded the pitch and physically attacked our goalkeeper, Mohammed Camara, while also hurling missiles at him.

“Beyond the events on the field, reports indicate that media personnel and supporters who travelled from Kumasi to cover and support our team were also attacked.

“Tragically, one of our supporters who was stabbed during the violence has succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.”

While expressing condolences to the bereaved family, Asante Kotoko called for quick action to bring the perpetrators to book.

“Asante Kotoko will fully cooperate with the Ghana Football Association in any investigations and expects swift and firm action to be taken against those responsible.

“Football must be played in a secure and fair environment, and these acts of violence must not be tolerated.”

Meanwhile, Nsoatreman FC have commiserated with Asante Kotoko, condemning the incident in no uncertain terms.

They have pledged to cooperate with the police to bring the perpetrators to book.
