An accident at the Residential Road Junction on the Cape Coast – Accra Highway has claimed three lives and injured several others in the process.
The Regional Headquarters of the Ghana National Fire Service received a report from the Fire Master Control in Accra about the Friday, December 27, 2024 incident at 6:48am.
A rescue team from the Regional Headquarters and the Cape Coast Metropolitan Fire Station was dispatched to the scene to assist casualties trapped in the wreckage.
The accident involved a Yutong bus with registration number GW 6231-21, travelling from Takoradi to Accra and carrying 53 passengers. According to the Fire Service officers who got to the scene, the bus had overturned, trapping some passengers beneath it.
Rescue officers from the Ghana National Fire Service, assisted by police and ambulance services, managed to free all the trapped passengers.
The injured were transported to the Cape Coast Teaching and the University of Cape Coast Hospitals for medical attention.
Medical practitioners at the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital confirmed the deaths of three individuals.
Other passengers with varying degrees of injuries are currently receiving treatment, with 23 admitted at the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital and nine treated and discharged.
Investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the crash.
