A 30-year-old man, identified as Majeed Tugah, has drowned in River Bia at Suino in the Suaman District of the Western North Region.
According to the Assembly Member for the Suino Electoral Area, Stephen Otu, the deceased had gone to work near the banks of the river.
He said that following heavy rainfall on the evening of July 6, 2026, the water level in the River Bia rose significantly.
Majeed reportedly attempted to swim across the river but unfortunately drowned midway.
Mr. Otu said the deceased’s body was recovered on July 8, 2026, after an intensive search by residents.
The body has been conveyed to the mortuary for preservation and further investigation by the police.
The Assembly Member has appealed to residents to exercise extreme caution during the rainy season, especially when attempting to cross rivers and other flooded areas, to prevent similar tragedies.
