At Azietsi-Korpe, a fishing community near Agyata village in the Afram Plains South district of the Eastern region, rescue operations are ongoing in search of one person who drowned with 11 others.

The Thursday, November 9, 2023, incident occured at the Agyata Electoral Area when twelve people were crossing the river from Azietsi-Korpe to Agyata when they got drowned following the capsising of their canoe.

Emergency team comprising personnel from the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), Police, Fire Service, and Ambulance Service responded to the scene and rescued six people, including four female adults and two male adults.

Five bodies, including three elderly women and two young girls, were retrieved and confirmed dead.

Alfred Owiredu-Agyeman, the Eastern Regional Operations Director of NADMO, said efforts were in place to retrieve the last person.
