Media General’s Northern, Savannah and North East regions correspondent Christopher Amoako has won two awards at the 3rd Northern Region Ghana Journalists’ Association (GJA) awards.

He retained the Best Education Reporter and the Best Reporter in Development Journalism in furthering the SDGs.

Speaking at the event, Northern Region GJA Chairman Yakubu Majeed urged journalists in the region to use their platforms to project the region for development.

“We have a big task of projecting our regions which are deprived in terms of development in order to influence development to lessen the hardships and poverty levels of our people,” he said.

“Remain committed to the work and be guided by our ethics and principles as journalists,” he added.

National President of GJA Albert Kwabena Dwumfour cautioned political parties to desist from attacking journalist in line of their duty.

He condemned the recent attack on a Citi FM/TV reporter at an NDC vetting in Accra.

The annual GJA awards is held to reward journalists who have distinguished themselves in line of their work.

Other journalists also took home awards on the night.

Among them were Eric Kombat of Daily Guide, Abdul Wahab Yumzaa of Zaa TV, Mohammed Fugu of Daily Graphic among others.

Mohammed Fugu was adjudged the Overall Best Journalist of the Year.

Mohammed Fugu – Best Journalist in Tourism

Mohammed Fugu – Best Environmental Journalist

Comfort Sena – Best Journalist in Road and Safety Reporting

Mohammed Amin Alabira – Best Journalist in Peace Reporting

Christopher Amoako – Best Journalist in Reporting on SDGs

Prince Halid Mukadi – Best Sports Journalist

Baba Kamil – Best Health Reporter of the Year

Some radio stations in the north were also recognized for their roles played in critical development of the North through the use of their platforms.

While Diamond FM, a local radio station in Tamale, was adjudged Best Radio Station in the Northern region, Pad FM was recognized as the Best Radio Station in the Savanna region.

Community radio station Lom FM, based in Bunpkurugu in the North-East region, was named as the Best Radio Station in the region.

Sankara Radio’s “Straight Forward show” was also adjudged the Best Current Affairs Programme in the Eastern corridor of Dagbon.
