OnuaOnline has learnt a foul development from the quarters of the visually impaired graduates yet to undertake their national service.

Many state institutions where such graduates were posted are rejecting them on suspicion of inefficiency of output.

The Media Relation Officer for the Centre for Inclusive Advocacy Ghana, Glibert Boateng Agyare who alerted the media on the issue said the discrimination against the persons has become a worry to them, asking the requisite authorities and institutions to step in.

“A quintessential example is the headmaster of Obiri Yeboah Senior High School at Assin Fosu who has jettisoned the appointment letter of one Michael Owusu from the University of Education for his national service in the school as a teacher because he is a blind person,” he told OnuaOnline

.

He underscored the need for the institutions to alter their scripts on discriminating against the visually impaired since the defect in sight is not a defect on their brains.

“I can contend to you without any ounce of equivocation that we visually impaired people are very competent on our work and we even have the repertoire to execute assignment more than those who have sight.

“I am a blind person myself but I work with the Aburi Municipal Assembly as an Assistant Director of Administration with a superlative record regarding the efficacy of my work as a director,” he disclosed.

Mr. Asare who looked so disturbed over the issue described the development as “absolutely preposterous, bunkum and very repugnant.”

“It is about time we halted this kind of discrimination as a country by judging the book by its cover. Because someone cannot see, you think he or she is incapable?,” he quizzed.
