Allied Health Professionals have been entreated to use alternative means rather than industrial actions in registering their displeasure.

The Deputy Registrar of the Allied Health Council, Daniel Atta Nyarko has noted such actions disorganized the labour front with rippling effects in healthcare delivery.

He made the call during the 9th Induction and Oath swearing ceremony of newly qualified allied health graduates in Kumasi Friday, November 18, 2022 which was on the theme “Improving Access and Quality Healthcare: the Role of the Allied Health Professional”.

“Be guided by a true sense of brotherliness, sense of nationhood and help build mother Ghana to the state we can all be very proud of. Please endeavour to limit the use of actions and picketing as means of getting your grievances resolved,” he appealed.

He implored the inaugurated interns to be committed and exhibit professionalism in their line of duty.

“It is my fervent hope that as you leave here today as graduates of allied health professions, you would work together with the other professionals to building a very strong healthcare team that will place the welfare of the client and the Ghanaian population above all other interests,” he encouraged.

He, however, bemoaned the activities of quacks thwarting the delivery of professional services and called for the support of law enforcement agencies to fight the menace.

“Another disturbing issue facing the allied health industry is the canker of quacks who have invaded the health delivery system. The harm being committed by these people cannot be underestimated. The council with the total support of the governing board and the Health Intelligence Unit of the Ministry of Health have been trying to weed out the charlatans from the society.

“Unfortunately, the expected support from the law enforcement agencies have not helped much to deal with the issue. Several cases reported to the police across the country appear dead for the lack of prosecution. Our humble appeal is for the necessary support in this fight by swiftly dealing with the offenders to protect the unsuspecting members of the society from these criminals,” he bewailed.

The Ashanti Regional Coordinating Director who delivered a speech on behalf of the Ashanti regional minister, Dorcas Baidoo reiterated the commitment of government in improving healthcare delivery and urged the graduands to accept postings to all districts nationwide.

“Government is making every effort to make health accessible to every Ghanaian. It is therefore imperative we play our roles as allied health professionals and be ready to accept posting to all districts within the country to deliver our services,” she implored.

She, therefore, charged the allied health council to be up to the task and called for the collaboration of all stakeholders in assisting efforts by government to achieving it’s feat in health care delivery in the midst of the current economic hardship in the country.
