Ghana’s Head of Diplomatic Mission in Nigeria, Alhaji Rashid Bawa could only offer a Ghana flag to the Ghanaian contingent that represented the nation at the African Wheelchair Tennis tournament.

Coach of the National Wheelchair Tennis team, Philip Plange, detailing the ordeal they went through in Nigeria with his team on Onua TV/FM said the High Commissioner’s reception was disappointing.

According to him, the team even wanted to take photographs with him after the programme but was nowhere to be found.

The team, which attended the tournament in Nigeria on a $1,200 loan budget were surviving on the soil of the African giants with machiavellian tactics.

They explain they needed to device strategies to enjoy their hotel breakfast to escape payment should in case they are demanded to pay.

The 7-man squad with their coach inclusive, together with two nursing mothers who starved during most of their travelling time and stay in Nigeria were also attacked by armed robbers on their way from Abuja to Lagos.

The contingent expected the Commissioner to have given them some warm reception “as given to the Black Stars” whenever they travel but were only gifted with Ghana flags.

Mr. Plange said his team members, at a point felt he has been given some booty to share among them but wants to short-changed them.

“We called on our ambassador in Nigeria and he only gave us Ghana flag. We wanted to even take pictures with him but he was nowhere to be found. And our people felt he had even given us something and I was keeping it,” team Coach Philip Plange told Captain Smart.

Meanwhile, after an examination by the National Ambulance Service on the team upon their arrival after the robbery attack, the team has since been lodging at the Accra Sports Stadium without any medical attention.
