Former Black Stars Coach, James Kwesi Appiah, has stated that a monumental edifice must be built in Christian Atsu’s hometown in memory of the late footballer.
According to him, the call is necessary for the former Black Stars winger considering the bizarre circumstances through which he died.
The man who gave Atsu his first opportunity in the senior national team said putting up whatever the nation has to offer for the late player’s memory must be situated in his hometown to serve as inspiration for the young ones in the village.

“He played for the country and looking at how he died, I will say we should build something in his village to honour him so that when the children at the village see it, they will know there was once a person from this village who went this far,” he told Captain Smart, host of Maakye on Monday, February 20, 2023 on Onua TV/FM.
Sharing his thoughts on Atsu’s personal character, the man who has handled the Black Stars on two different occasions –2012 to 2014 and 2017 to 2020 –said even though Atsu was as little more open compared to him, “I will say he is my back-born due to how reserved and quiet he is.”
Christian Atsu was found dead Saturday, February 18, 2023 under a rubble in Turkey following an earthquake that struck the southern part of the country and northern Syria.
A search was mounted for the former Everton, Chelsea and Newcastle star for almost two weeks before his body was found.
His mortal remains was sent to Accra Sunday, February 19, where he was received by the family and some government officials.
Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia assured the family.of government’s full support in burying the 2015 AFCON Player of the Tournament.
