Former President and flag bearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) John Dramani Mahama, has, together with other stalwarts of the party, met with Dr. Kwabena Duffuor.
Mr. Mahama posted a picture of him and the former Finance Minister and flag bearer aspirant of the NDC on his social media handles saying the duo discussed the way forward for the party and matters relating to the upcoming general elections.
“It was great meeting with Dr Kwabena Duffuor as we discussed the future of our party and the upcoming 2024 elections. It is important for us to come together and work towards unity and the growth of our party,” John Mahama stated.
He encouraged Ghanaians to “let’s focus on our common goals and aspirations to build the Ghana we want together.”
With him were other party executives and elders.
Dr. Duffuor pulled out of the NDC polls at the eleventh hour sighting issues with party’s register.
Before pulling out of the race, he had filed a petition to express his displeasure about certain anomalies in the process which he reiterated on Agoo FM at Nkawkaw Friday, May 5, 2023, to wrap up a 4-day campaign tour he had in the Eastern region.
“Today is 5th May, we are are going to the polls on 13th May but we have not received the register which is going to be used for the election. So my campaign team is demanding for the release of the register. We have written to the party so we are waiting for them. There are rules and regulations about any election. My name could be conspicuously missing during the day of the election. What will I do in that situation? Am I going to fight or what? No! Reason we want to get access to the register to ensure that all qualified delegates are on the register,” Dr Duffuor had lamented.
He asked “why is the register not out? If this happened in National elections and it is just a week ahead what would they have done. We are not litigating. We just want to have access to the register to ensure every qualified delegate’s name is on the register so we go to the polls to vote fairly and peacefully. I am praying that they do the right things.”
His exit left the race with John Dramani Mahama and former Mayor of Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly, Kojo Bonsu.
