Former Auditor-General Daniel Yaw Domelevo, has disclosed why he and over a 100 others filed a petition for Parliament to probe the Economic and Organised Crime Office’s (EOCO) conduct on the Cecilia Dapaah matter.

The anti-corruption campaigner says they want to ascertain whether EOCO refused the probe as a result of President “Akufo-Addo’s prophecy” that Cecilia Dapaah was going to be vindicated at the end of the investigations.

After her resignation as Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources following her missing cash scandal, President Akufo-Addo in the resignation acceptance letter disclosed that he was confident she was going to be exonerated.

“I am confident, like you, that, at the end of the day, your integrity, whilst in office, will be fully established. I wish you the very best in all your endeavours,” the President said in his letter indicating his acceptance of the woman’s resignation as Minister.

This, is what Mr. Domelevo suspects could be the reason EOCO refused to investigate the woman in order not to contradict the President’s expectations.

On Ghana Tonight Thursday, May 17, 2024, Mr. Domelevo said they want to find out if it’s the Constitution that’s at play or EOCO is doing the bid of the President.

“…That is why we have asked Parliament to look into what is behind the apparent refusal of EOCO to investigate the offence or allegation because we want to know the story behind the story of EOCO.

“So, I think if Parliament calls them, we will like to know whether it is because of the President’s prophecy which says that at the end of the investigation, Hon. Cecilia Abena Dapaah, her integrity or reputation will be restored or it’s because Section 1 subsection 3 provides that in the course of investigating money laundering offence, if the person being investigated has in his or her possession, property which the person cannot account for, and it cannot be reasonably attributed to his or her sources of income, then the person is guilty of money laundering or it is both,” he indicated.

Meanwhile, Prof. Ransford Gyampo who is part of the petitioners had earlier indicated on the KeyPoints on TV3 that the institutions probing the matter are refusing to make progress because they don’t wan to stand in the way of the President.
