The national U-17 men’s soccer team, the Black Starlets, booked a place in the semi-finals of the ongoing WAFU Zone B U-17 Qualifiers after a 2-0 win over Benin.

First-half strikes by Mark Kagawa Mensah and Theophilus Ayamga were enough to secure all three points for the hosts.

The Beninois, having lost their opening game to La Cote d’Ivoire, were seeking to secure a heavy win over the Black Starlets to stand a chance of making it to the next round.

But it was Laryea Kingston’s side who were determined to maintain their perfect start to the tournament after Wednesday’s 5-1 win.

They broke the deadlock in the 19th minute through Kagawa Mensah.

Three minutes later, Ayamga finished off a long possession of more than 20 passes to double the lead for the home side.

Despite several efforts to score more goals, the score stayed the same to the end.

Ghana, therefore, top the group while La Cote d’Ivoire stay 2nd with Benin bottom without a point.

The Starlets will face either Burkina Faso or Nigeria for a place in the final of the tournament.
