Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the Vice President and flag bearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has been told to review the Chieftaincy Act if elected President.
The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, who made the call noted that, the Act, if reviewed, would empower the traditional authority who are custodians of the land to make proper partnership with the government to fight illegal mining otherwise known as ‘galamsey’, which is destroying the country’s water bodies and forest reserves.
At a courtesy call on the King at the Manhyia palace Wednesday, June 13, 2024, as part of his campaign tour to the Ashanti Region, the Vice President outlined his vision for the state should he be given the opportunity to lead.
He told the overlord of the Asante Kingdom his vision to introduce a flat rate tax system to ease businessmen from the struggles they are going through with the high import duties which is crippling many industries.
The Asantehene, after extolling the Vice President’s humility, admonished him to continue all projects started by President Akufo-Addo if he gets the opportunity, adding that the improvement in the allowances for the various traditional councils as he has promised should also be implemented.

Otumfuo also urged Dr. Bawumia to undertake major projects himself after continuing what his predecessor has started to position the country on the path of growth and sustainable development.
To win the polls, the Asantehene counseled the NPP flag bearer to explain his vision well for Ghanaians to understand and vote for him in the upcoming elections.
The Vice President had earlier called on the Chief of Kenyase in the Kwabre East Municipality and pledged his commitment to ensure the completion of the projects in the area.
Dr. Bawumia also inspected the agenda 111 Project, currently ongoing in the Municipality and inspected the Mampongteng town roads and promised to put them in good condition.
Dr Bawumia again, visited the Opoku Ware Senior High School and presented over 4000 tablets to the students.
This is part of the smart school initiative being implemented by the government to ensure quality educational delivery in the technological age.
