The King and Overlord of the Gonja Kingdom, Yagbonwura Bii-Kunuto Jewu Soale, will be embarking on a historic visit to the Nayiri, Naa Bohagu Mahami Abdulai Sheriga, the Overlord of the Manprugu Kingdom, in his royal palace at Nalerigu in the North East Region.
In a statement issued by the spokesperson of the Yagbonwura, Benkromwura Seidu Saaka Bakari, the two Kings are expected to deliberate on the way forward to restoring lasting peace on the land dispute between Gonjas and Mamprusis leaving around Lukula in the North Gonja District.
“The visit to the Mamprugu Kingdom forms part of the King’s desire to visit other Kingdoms as a means of strengthening relations with other Kingdoms as well ensuring lasting peaceful coexistence,” portions of the statement indicated.
Apart from fostering and strengthening the long standing relationship between the two kingdoms, the visit to the Mamprugu kingdom will also pave the way for a discussion on boundary disputes.
“The 2024 elections is also between sons of these two kingdoms and it’s important we show the world that the two kingdoms are peaceful and will want Ghanaians to learn from their examples”
The visit to Mamprugu will be the second historic visit by the Yagbonwura since ascending the Yagbon Skins in March, 2023.
In May this year, he visited the Gbewaa Palace at Yendi where he had fruitful discussions with the king of Dagbon, Ya-Na Abukari II.
Gonjas and Mamprusis have had a friendly relationship dating back to several centuries.
“The Yagbonwura extends an invitation to all sons and daughters of Gonjaland to be part of this all historic event,” noted the stated.
