President John Dramani Mahama has sent a delegation of top government officials from the security sector to meet with the Yagbonwura Bii-Kunuto Jewu Soale, to discuss a roadmap to restore peace between the two feuding factions in his area.

According to a statement signed by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Minister in Charge of Government Communications, on Sunday, August 31, 2025, the President was briefed on the situation upon his return from a state visit to Singapore.

The President, after having a telephone conversation with the Yagbonwura while in Singapore, has sent the Interior Minister, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, , together with the National Security Coordinator and others to map out a strategy with the Yagbonwura to end the Gbeniyiri conflict.

“As part of this peace-building effort, he has dispatched a government delegation, led by the Minister for the Interior, Hon. Muntaka Mohamed-Mubarak, to meet the Yagbonwura and other key stakeholders in the area,” the statement read.

Meanwhile, “security has been reinforced with the deployment of an additional detachment of police and military personnel to the area” with the President, urging “all parties to support the initiatives underway to end the conflict and restore normalcy.”

The delegation has been directed to work with the regional security council, traditional leaders, and community stakeholders to promote dialogue and resolve the impasse.

The Gbenyiri conflict has claimed several lives, including those who drowned after the boat they were fleeing in capsized in the conflict zone.
