Former NPP Second National Vice Chairman Samuel Azu Crabbe says the NDC’s coming into power has exposed certain issues that were propagandized against the NPP when they were in office.
He cites the National Cathedral scandal as an example, noting that it contains facts that were blown out of proportion to the citizenry, which likely contributed to the NPP’s defeat.
According to him, the recent audit by Deloitte Ghana revised some figures that were previously released, which sparked public disaffection for the party and likely contributed to their defeat. “Things that were said before, things that were propagandized, it’s coming out that those things are not largely true.”
Speaking on TV3’s Hot Issues with Keminni Amanor on Sunday, August 31, 2025, Mr. Crabbe indicated that things are not as they were presented to Ghanaians prior to the December 2024 polls.
“I think even with the National Cathedral, I think the numbers have been revised in a way,” he said.
When asked whether the audit disputed the fact that money had been spent without the nation having a cathedral, Crabbe admitted that although the cathedral was a problem, there was still a way it could have been handled to appease the emotions of religious people.
“If you position yourself very well, like I said, religious leader, doctrinal influence, that National Cathedral, to me, yes, was a problem. However, you will find a way to turn it around and appeal to the emotions of religious people.”
“And they don’t really care whether money was spent, or blown, or wasted, or not. They don’t care. They would come and vote for you, largely because they align with your value of making sure that you protect their religion and create a space for all of them to worship,” he stated.
“This is a place that I would go and fight my enemy. Even in the midst of this disaster, I would look for that. I would look for that point,” he explained.
