The Court of Appeal has dismissed an application for stay of proceedings by former board chair of the Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund, Prof Christopher Ameyaw Ekumfi who is standing trial at the High Court.
Prof Ameyaw Ekumfi, the second accused person in the Sky train trial was asking the Court of Appeal to halt the proceedings of his case pending an appeal he has filed challenging the High Court’s order asking him to open his defence after his submission of no case was refused.
The three member panel of the Court of Appeal presided over by Justice Georgina Mensah-Datsa held that the applicant did not demonstrate exceptional circumstances to warrant the court granting the relief prayed for.
The Court therefore ordered the case to take its normal course.
With both the injunction by the 1st accused and a stay of proceedings application by the 2nd accused dismissed the accused persons are expected to filed their defences by 23rd September 2026 for the trial to continue.
The two accused persons, former CEO of the GIIF, Mr Solomon Asamoah and Former Board Chair of GIIF, Prof Christopher Ameyaw Ekumfi are standing trial for allegedly stealing, causing financial loss to the state, using public funds for profit in a $2million for a Skytrain project which did not materialise.
