The Supreme Court has set Monday, August 31 to rule on an injunction application filed by lawyers of former CEO of the Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund, Solomon Asamoah, seeking to restrain the High Court from proceeding with his trial pending the determination of his request to quash the decision of the court ordering him to open his defence.
Asamoah’s lawyers, led by Victoria Barth, also sought orders quashing the variation of his bail conditions.
Deputy Attorney-General Dr Justice Srem-Sai opposed both applications and urged the Supreme Court to dismiss them.
Solomon Asamoah is the first accused in the Sky Train scandal trial.
He has been charged, together with former board chairman of GIIF, Prof Christopher Ameyaw Akumfi, with stealing, causing financial loss to the state, and money laundering, among others.
Both accused persons have pleaded not guilty and are on bail.
The High Court ordered them to open their defence after dismissing their submission of no case.
The prosecution relied on the testimonies of three witnesses before closing its case.
The apex court constituted Justice Senyo Dzamefe, sitting as a single judge.
