The Attorney-General’s Department and Ministry of Justice, has closed its case in the Skytrain scandal prosecution.
The case involves two persons, Mr Solomon Asamoah, a former Chief Executive of the Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund (GIIF) and Prof Ameyaw Ekumfi, a Former Board Chair of the Fund, who are facing charges of causing financial loss to the state for allegedly disbursing $2 million for a Skytrain project without Board approval.
This means that the prosecution has finished leading evidence to support the various charges which the accused persons are facing.
The Prosecution called 3 witnesses; Mr.Yaw Odame-Darkwa, a Former Board Member of GIIF, Mr Kofi Boakye, a Lawyer and acting Board Secretary of GIIF and Mr Francis Aboagye, a Staff Officer at the National Intelligence Bureau who led the investigations.
All 3 witnesses testified variously to the effect that the Board never approved the Skytrain project which the accused persons allegedly disbursed $2 million for.
Laywers for the accused persons after prosecution closed its case, have indicated their intention to file a submission of no case application to ask the court to terminate the trial because prosecution has not made out the offence in its evidence.
The Court Presided over by Her Ladyship Justice Audrey Kocuvie-Tay has given the accused 3 weeks to file their application.
