Female officers with the Ghana National Fire Service at Sege in the Ada East district of the Greater Accra Region were crowned champions at the 2024 Onua Cooking Competition at Ada.

The cooking competition is part of the annual activities organised at the Asafotufiami festival.

The event prioritises the promotion of local cuisines where groups of four to five people come together to cook.

This year’s edition featured five groups of four and five persons who exhibited their cooking prowess at the community centre of Ada.

After the competition, Group 5, which comprised five women from the Ghana National Fire Service annexed the others with their ‘Apapransa

‘ delicacy.

Participants of the group included Agnes Baiden, Mavis Amanda Tei, Grace Blankson and Priscilla Amanor.

Meanwhile, Juliana Mensah, Ernestina Narkie Agyare, Sadia Nasiru with Rita Adjorlolo and Jesse Sea Bortey from Electrochem Ghana Limited who formed Group 1, came second with their Kokonte and Groundnut Soup.

With their Ampesie ne Abom, the Sege Market Women comprising Millicent Azameti, Rebecca Obodai, Eunice Oduro, Vida Ocansey and Bernard Petiafo came third as Group 3.

Coming fourth was the Ada East nurses from Group 4 with their Fetritoto and  Akple. Forming that group were; Lucy Hermits-Bennin, Gifty Norkor Tetteh, Nora Otuko Kuwornu, Joyce Addy, Elikplim Kpakah and Joyce Adodoaji.

Coming last in the competition were nurses from the Sege Polyclinic in the Ada West district which included Jane Ahia Ababio, Sussana Annor, Emelia Yeboah
and Judith Jimah. They prepared banku with okro soup.

Souvenirs from sponsors of the competition were shared to all participants of the event.

The contest was sponsored by Sankofa Natural Spices, Bills Microcredit, GILSAN Manufacturing Company Ltd, producers of Ivy Anticeptic, Shinefeel Ghana Limited, producers of Wippy and Angel Cloud Tissues, Peeva Beverages and Ice drop mineral water.
