In a significant move to bolster security and counter-terrorism efforts within the West African subregion, Ghana is set to host the 2nd International Defence Exhibition and Conference (IDEC) from August 28 to 29, 2024.

The event, organized by the Ghana Armed Forces, will bring together more than 600 international and regional defence delegates, marking it as a pivotal gathering for security professionals and stakeholders across Africa and beyond.

Speaking at a media briefing ahead of the conference, Brigadier General Salifu, the Chairman of the IDEC 2024 Organizing Committee, emphasized the importance of the event in enhancing regional security cooperation.

He noted that the conference is a strategic part of Ghana’s ongoing efforts to strengthen security frameworks and combat the growing threat of terrorism within the subregion.

“IDEC 2024 provides a crucial platform for defence and security leaders to come together, share insights, and collaborate on strategies to address the pressing security challenges facing Africa, particularly the threats posed by terrorism,” Brig. Gen. Salifu stated.

IDEC 2024 will be held in Accra and will feature a two-day conference and exhibition. The event will attract a diverse range of participants, including land forces, national security agencies, defence and interior ministries, law enforcement agencies, special forces, and other key stakeholders from around the globe.

This assembly of top military officials, security experts, and solution providers positions IDEC 2024 as the foremost defence gathering in Africa, offering a unique opportunity for collaboration and knowledge exchange.

The conference will include discussions on Africa’s most pressing security threats, including terrorism, insurgency, and other forms of organized crime. It will also feature an exhibition showcasing the latest in defence technology and solutions, providing a platform for companies and organizations to present cutting-edge innovations that can support Africa’s security objectives.

A highlight of IDEC 2024 will be the assembly of Chiefs of Army from both African and non-African nations.

This gathering underscores the conference’s global significance and the critical role that international cooperation plays in addressing security challenges. The presence of these high-ranking officials will facilitate important discussions on regional and global security, and foster stronger ties between nations committed to peace and stability.

Notably, the conference will also engage with countries in Africa that are currently navigating complex governance structures, including those without fully established democratic institutions. This inclusive approach aims to promote dialogue and encourage the adoption of best practices in governance and security.

IDEC 2024 is expected to have a lasting impact on the region’s security landscape by fostering stronger partnerships and promoting the sharing of best practices among nations.

By bringing together a wide array of defence and security professionals, the conference will play a key role in shaping the future of Africa’s security architecture.

As Ghana prepares to host this landmark event, the nation reaffirms its commitment to leading efforts in enhancing regional security and combating terrorism.

IDEC 2024 is set to be a transformative event, paving the way for more coordinated and effective responses to the security challenges facing Africa and the wider world.
