The running mate to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, who is also known as NAPO, has assured small scale miners that the next NPP government will transform the sector by introducing a robust community mining.

He says the government will revolutionalise the sector by establishing community mining schemes in abandoned shafts and exploration of new mining sites to create jobs for the citizens.

Addressing a rally at Bogoso in the Prestea Huni Valley constituency and Mpohor in the Western region, the vice presidential candidate outlined plans to revolutionize the mining sector to benefit local miners.

He was confident the welcome the rousing welcome he received was enough to show how ready the constituents were determined to vote for the NPP.

“The rousing welcome is indicative of Prestea Huni Valley’s resolve to vote for Dr. Bawumia and return the seat to the NPP through Barbara Oteng-Gyasi on December 7,” he stated.

Addressing the chiefs and clergy, he emphasised that the NPP’s primary objective has “always been to manage Ghana’s mineral resources in a way that benefits the people and stimulates economic growth without compromising the environment.”

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s vision, he said, is to foster responsible mining practices while assisting small-scale mining companies grow into larger enterprises.

That, he said would be “achieved through capacity building and providing access to financing for equipment acquisition.”

He reaffirmed Dr. Bawumia’s plan to collaborate with the private sector to establish a Minerals Development Bank, which will support the mining industry.

Highlighting the significant number of Ghanaians involved in small-scale mining, estimated at around one million individuals, NAPO stressed the importance of transitioning these miners towards responsible mining practices.

He emphasised that this approach would not only lead to the creation of more wealth but also contribute to environmental conservation efforts.

He appealed to the miners to desist from polluting the water bodies and rally support for the former Minister of Tourism who is the parliamentary candidate, Barbara Oteng Gyasi, to derive developments to the area.
