Some aggrieved workers of the National Identification Authority (NIA) have declared strike effective today, Monday, October 07, 2024, over delayed implementation of new service scheme.
This is contained in a statement issued by the Divisional Executives Council of the Public Services Workers Union of the Trades Union Congress (TUC) Ghana, the NIA Division.
According to the Sunday, October 06, 2024 statement, the workers are going on strike as a result of the government’s failure to comply with the new scheme of service approved by both parties.
The workers say they will not back down on the strike until the government implements the new scheme of service.
“After exhaustive patience and repeated demands, we regret to inform you that your unacceptable failure to operationalise the newly approved Scheme of Service (SoS) has compelled us to take this decisive action beginning Monday, October 7, 2024. And by extension, all our members will not avail ourselves to work beginning [Monday] until the scheme of service is fully operationalised.”
The workers say the failure to implement the agreed scheme of service is a blatant breach of trust and a direct attack on the well-being of all members.
“The SoS, which was painstakingly approved by PSC within two weeks in record history, in the month of March remains a vital tool for our collective survival and progress. Management’s obstinate refusal to implement this critical document is a blatant betrayal of trust and a direct attack on our well-being.”
