John Dramani Mahama, the flag bearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), is urging Ghanaians to vote against the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the hardship it has brought upon them.
He says the NPP needs to go back to opposition as punishment for its bad governance for the past eight years which has made living conditions unbearable.
John Mahama asserts sending the NPP to opposition is the only way its members can reflect on the bad governance they have given Ghanaians over the years.
Speaking to residents of Golu and Tumu Sunday, October 13, 2024, the former President listed a variety of reasons why the NPP cannot be retained in the upcoming elections.
“You are not rewarded because you’ve failed and so in this election, we are not going to reward them for destroying Ghana’s economy, for inflicting hardship on Ghanaians, for inflicting debt on Ghanaians, hardship, debt and inflation on Ghanaians. We are going to ask them to go back to opposition and go and reflect on the damage that they’ve done to this country,” he stated.
He also assured them of fulfilling a promise he made to them in 2020 by revamping the Tumu Cottion ginnery to provide them jobs.
“In 2020 I told you that when I was a young boy and used to come here with my father, the Tumu Cotton industry was working. People were growing cotton and the ginnery was producing cotton for the Juapong Textiles Mill and people were earning money and so I said one of the things we want to revamp the cotton industry and the cotton farming in the Sissala East and West areas so that we can revive the Ghana cotton company ginnery,” he assured.
He, however, indicated that the company is going to be managed by the private sector for efficiency and more employment opportunities.
“But this time under private management not state management so that it can run more efficiently and provide employment to the young people here in Tumu to be able to also earn an income,” he added.
