A communications team member of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Beatrice Annangfio, has chastised the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) saying members have reduced political discourse in the country.

According to her, the government has sought to limit every communication on the administration of the state to the free Senior High School (SHS) policy introduced by Akufo-Addo in 2017.

Despite the NPP claiming the initiative as its brainchild, the NDC says the erstwhile Mahama administration introduced the policy, albeit progressively, with the Convention People’s Party (CPP) also saying the credit should be given to them since the initiative is a brainchild of Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.

Speaking on the BigIssue on TV3’s NewDay Thursday, October 17, 2024, Madam Annangfio stated that although the free SHS is a good policy, the NPP government has “shambolically” implemented it, using it as a cover up for its failure in the other sectors of the economy.

The private legal practitioner lamented how the government wants Ghanaians to overlook its incompetence because it has introduced free SHS, saying the development has reduced the quality of public discourse.

She stated that issues concerning maternal healthcare, constitutional crisis, unemployment and other challenges of the economy have all been reduced to free SHS whenever a discussion of national discourse comes up.

“These guys are a group of people who always bring the new level of lowness in public discourse. These days, the levels of national discourse have reduced to practically nothing that citizens can no longer have discussions on anything because maternal healthcare must be solved by free SHS, the issue of constitutional crisis and discussion is a free SHS matter, many people not having employment is a free SHS matter and practically we don’t have any problems in Ghana again because we ought to be grateful that the failing government has shambolically implemented a good policy,” she stated.
