Education Minister, Haruna Iddrisu has rejected claims by New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia that Ghana’s Free Senior High School (Free SHS) programme is facing significant challenges.
According to Iddrisu, the programme has recorded notable improvements under the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government, with government providing the necessary resources and support to sustain the policy.
The Education Minister suggested that Dr Bawumia may have been misinformed about the current state of the Free SHS programme.
He therefore urged the former Vice President to reconsider his assertions, particularly claims relating to feeding arrangements for students and other support provided under the Free SHS policy.
“The Free SHS programme continues to receive the necessary support from government, and claims that it is facing challenges do not reflect the current situation. Dr Bawumia may have been misinformed about what is happening on the ground,” he said.
Mr Iddrisu maintained that government remains committed to ensuring that students enrolled under the Free SHS programme receive the support they need to complete their education.
