An educationist, Dr. Peter Partey Anti says there is a need for the government as well as the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) to take steps to reduce examination malpractices.

His concern follows the cancelation of the results of 380 candidates who sat the 2024 BECE by WAEC.

The West African sub regional examination body has announced that the entire results of 41 school candidates and 1 private candidate were also cancelled while those of 33 school and 3 private candidates have been withheld for various infractions.

Dr. Peter Anti says, this phenomenon will keep recurring until there is a comprehensive policy to resolve such matters. He spoke to 3FM on October 21.

“Year on after the other we see these things and it’s not surprising anymore. So, it’s time we have policies that will help to reduce it. It cannot be stopped from where I sit. So, there is need for the comprehensive policy to look at such matters. You will realize that the malpractice and infractions keep recurring at the examination centers. It’s disturbing,” stated.

The BECE for 2024 was held from June 3rd to 7th, 2024. A total of 569,236 candidates sat for the examination, comprising 282,703 males and 286,533 females.

The examination was conducted at 2,123 centers across the country.
