The National Chairman of the People’s National Convention (PNC), Samson Asaki Awingobit has said that they disagree with the ruling by an Accra High Court that upheld a decision by the Electoral Commission to disqualify their presidential candidate, Bernard Mornah.
According to him, “the PNC has accepted the court decision but disagreed with the ruling”.
He added that “the party shall proceed for an appeal or a review and so the party members should keep calm”.
Mr Awingobit said, “The Electoral Commission was not fair to us, PNC has been in existence from 1992 and it is one of the oldest political parties and so I don’t know why the Electoral Commission is treating us this way”.
He further assured the party members that “all hope is not lost; we will proceed to apex court for review. We all saw how the speaker declared four seats vacant and how fast the NPP took it to court and also how fast the Chief Justice ruled so I am pleading to the court to do same when we go for the review”.
It is recalled that the Electoral Commission disqualified Bernard Mornah as a presidential candidate in the December 7 election. The Commission identified errors in his nomination forms, which the EC were not rectified to its satisfaction.
