Samuel Kofi Atta Mills, son of Ghana’s late former President, John Evans Fiifi Atta Mills, has described the leadership of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as “extremely disappointing.”
The Vice President, who is also the flag bearer of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), according to Atta Mills, has not lived up to expectations considering his pronouncements whilst in opposition.
He asserts Samira Bawumia’s description of her husband as an ‘economic wizkid’ was a facade juxtaposing the current economic indices with that of the administration the NPP inherited 8 years ago.
With a cedi rate of 4 to a dollar, the then NPP in opposition described John Mahama as incompetent, with Dr. Bawumia giving lectures upon lectures on how to build a robust economy compared to what he described as the weak one the then government left for Ghanaians.
However, after 8 years of being in power, a cedi has depreciated from 4 to the dollar to over 16, which is more than quadruple of what the government he described as incompetent bequeathed.
During a one-on-one with Captain Smart on Maakye Monday, October 28, 2024, Samuel Atta Mills said it was a “complete shame” for Ghana to be in this mess after the noise made by the NPP whilst in opposition.
Sammy said the description he used for the late Vice President, Paa Kwesi Bekoe Amissah-Arthur, despite his achievement in the economy, and what he (Bawumia) has left the economy now, rubbishes the ‘economic wizkid’ tag his wife gave him prior to the 2016 elections.
“Extremely disappointing. And that’s me being very charitable with my comments,” he told Captain Smart, host of Maakye, Onua TV’s morning show, when asked to describe Bawumia performance and Vice President.
“When you look at the words he used to describe the late Vice President Amissah-Arthur and what we are seeing today, his wife called him economic wizkid, but today we are all suffering. Where is the economic wizkid? It’s a shame, completely shame,” he added.
