Ghana’s former President, John Agyekum Kufuor, is optimistic the December 07 general elections are going to be peaceful.
He has urged the populace to be civil and exercise their franchise in a manner that will not compromise the peace of the country.
Speaking with some journalists Sunday, November 17, 2024, he underscored the relevance of safeguarding Ghana’s peace in a time as crucial as this, admonishing the citizenry to remain calm.
He urged Ghanaians to accept the results of the verdict, reemphasising the fact that it is the citizens that wield ultimate power.
“It is essential for everyone to line up calmly to exercise their voting rights on election day. Electoral violence is unacceptable, and I hope for a peaceful election process.
“We must acknowledge that genuine power resides with the populace, and it is crucial to accept the results, regardless of personal preferences. I urge all participants to prioritize peace during this election.”
Ghana’s elections are scheduled for December 7, with the contest primarily between Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and John Dramani Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Meanwhile, a former Trade and Industry Minister, Alan John Kwadwo Kyerematen, who resigned from the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) to form the Movement for Change, according to various electoral polls, is battling the third slot with independent presidential candidate, Nana Kwame Bediako.
