A young man, seen in a Ghana Navy vest and displaying other military items in a room, has been arrested after a viral video surfaced in which he allegedly sent a message to President-elect John Dramani Mahama.
In the video, he claimed that the incoming leader intended to dismiss all soldiers recruited into the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) through protocol means.
A one-page press statement signed by Brigadier General Aggrey Quashie, Director General of the Department of Public Relations at the GAF, confirmed that the Military Police conducted an investigation, successfully locating and arresting the individual.
The suspect has been identified as Alex Cobbinah, a resident of Madina Zongo Junction, a suburb of Accra.
Further investigations revealed that Cobbinah had uploaded multiple videos on social media, wearing military accoutrements and pretending to be a soldier.
The Military Police have since handed him over to the Ghana Police Service for further investigation and potential prosecution, aiming to serve as a deterrent to others.
GAF also issued a stern warning to individuals who pose as middlemen, intermediaries, or agents demanding payment in exchange for assisting with recruitment processes.
The military urged the public to report such dubious individuals to the nearest military installation or police station.
Furthermore, GAF cautioned that anyone who pays money to such agents in hopes of securing enlistment into the GAF is equally culpable in these fraudulent activities.
