The disputed Nsawam-Adoagyiri constituency seat has been declared for the the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Frank Annoh-Dompreh.
Annoh-Dompreh lost the seat per the initial results declared by the Electoral Commission, before it was added to the disputed constituencies which needed to be re-collated.
The declaration of the outgoing Majority Chief Whip made at the Greater Accra Regional EC today, Saturday, December 21, 2024, following an order by the High Court in Accra due to the dispute that arose in the area.
The Court, presided over by Justice Rev. Joseph Adu-Owusu Agyeman, on Friday, December 20, also ordered the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to provide adequate security to the EC at the collation centre.
This followed some constituencies whose results couldn’t be declared as a result of the dispute that came over them.
Six NPP parliamentary candidates applied for a judicial review in the form of a Mandamus, urging the High Court to compel the Electoral Commission (EC) to collate and declare parliamentary results in their respective constituencies and compel the IGP to ensure adequate security at collation centres to enable the EC to carry out its constitutional duties without further disruptions.
This was because the EC had earlier indicated that some party supporters forced their officials to declare some of the results under duress which the Commission said it was not going to recognise.
Meanwhile, results for the Obuasi East constituency has already been made to confirm confirmed Patrick Boakye Yiadom of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) as the winner by a 19-vote margin.
