President John Dramani Mahama has declared that the era of shrouding expenditure on national teams in secrecy is past.
According to him, the national teams are funded with taxpayers’ monies, therefore, it behoves on officials to let them know how they are utilised.
President Mahama brought this to the fore in his state-of-the-nation address on Thursday, February 27.
“There will be no secrecy in how much the government spends on the national teams,” the president stated.
“The budgets presented by the FA and other sports associations must be known by the public.
“After all, it is the tax payers’ funds that are used to fund these activities.”
President Mahama also charged the Sports and Recreation Minister, Kofi Iddie Adams, to ensure that the Ghana Football Association (GFA) is accountable to the public, particularly concerning the upcoming World Cup qualifiers in March.
Ghana’s Black Stars will play Chad and Madagascar in Group I next month.
