Government has revealed that seven out of the nine forest reserves destroyed by illegal miners have been reclaimed.

The Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, who made the disclosure at a press meeting Wednesday, March 19, 2025, indicated that the feat was achieved by a joint security task force.

The task force, according to the Minister comprises the military, police, and the Forestry Commission’s rapid response team through sustained operations over the past month to reclaim the affected areas.

“The operations led to the confiscation of at least 60 excavators,” he added.

He noted that the government was adopting all measures to reclaim the two remaining forest reserves that have been destroyed by illegal miners.

“I’m proud to tell you, with the cooperation of the security agencies and the military, we have taken back seven of these nine forests, and we are working very hard to ensure that the remaining two are fully reclaimed,” Armah-Kofi Buah said.

He commended the Ghana Armed Forces and the Ministry of Defence for their support and called on the public to join efforts to ensure sustainable mining practices that protect the country’s natural resources.

He also announced the revocation of all mining licenses issued after the December 07, 2024, elections.
