The Vice President and Chairperson of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) Council, Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, has assured the President and the public that the Council will discharge its duties honourably to sustain the integrity of the Forces.
Her comments follow the inauguration of a seven-member Council at the Ministry of Defence by the President Monday, March 24, 2025, where they were charged to perform their duties in the interest of the nation.
During his address, President Mahama tasked members of the Council to discharge their duties with “wisdom, integrity and a deep commitment to national service.”
The Vice President, on her part, accepted to serve with her team with all the values needed to uplift the image of the GAF.
“As a Council, we accept to serve diligently, loyally, with patriotic zeal, to reset Ghana and reset the Ghana Armed Forces too to ensure that we have peace, we have stability for our beloved nation,” she stated.
She established how crucial the Council is, regarding the peace of the state, stating that as the reason the inauguration was different from others.
“This is a very solemn event, more so, than a celebratory one. It is not the appointment that we have funfair about,” she stated, expressing gratitude to the President and assuring him of the Council’s readiness to work towards protecting the integrity of the GAF.
“I want to thank the President for the honour done us and I want to assure him that as members of the Council, we will rise to the responsibility and ensure that his confidence is not misplaced.
“So we want to ensure that the Ghana Armed Forces retains, sustain and even extend its reputation which is established globally,” she assured.
