A 30-year-old man, Ibrahim Mohammed, has been arrested for allegedly killing 62-year-old Seidu Mumuni by striking him on the head with a stick at Sefwi Yawmatwa in the Bia West district of the Western North region.
According to reports, Ibrahim, who was suspected to be under the influence of drugs, attacked Seidu Mumuni without any provocation Thursday night, March 27, 2025.
The incident occurred when Ibrahim was seen engaging in a heated exchange with some children in the area. Seidu, who attempted to intervene and prevent him from harassing the children, was struck on the head with a stick, resulting in fatal injuries.
Despite being rushed to the hospital, Seidu Mumuni was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Following the attack, enraged community members apprehended Ibrahim Mohammed and subjected him to severe beatings before handing him over to the police. Due to the extent of his injuries, he was taken to Essam Government Hospital for medical treatment under police guard.
The Assemblyman for Sefwi Yawmatwa Electoral Area, Abass Mohammed Ayariga, confirmed the incident, stating that Ibrahim, a known drug abuser, attacked the elderly man with a stick. He explained that Seidu Mumuni had been trying to calm Ibrahim down before the suspect turned on him, striking him fatally.
Mr. Ayariga further confirmed that the suspect remains in police custody at Essam Government Hospital, while the body of Mumuni has been deposited at the Essam Government Hospital morgue for further investigation.
