The seven suspected illegal miners who were apprehended by the Upper West Regional Police Command at Chiantanga Community near Dorimon in the Wa West District of the Upper West Region are to reappear in Court on Thursday, April 24, 2025.

The suspects who were arrested on Thursday, April 10, 2025, for engaging in illegal mining activities on the Black Volta River after arraignment were remanded into police custody.

The Police in a press statement issued and signed by the Regional Commander, DCOP. Mr Nii Darko Offei Lomotey and copied to 3news.com said the suspects were earlier sent to the District Magistrate Court on Sunday, April 13, 2025.

“Following their arraignment, the suspects were remanded into police custody and slated to reappear in court on Thursday, April 24, 2025,” it stated.

You recall that the Police, in their earlier statement, gave the names of suspects as Sabugu Razak, Ibrahim Zuberu, Alex Ameszake, John Cobblah, Promise Dufe, Angelina Akpese, and Rebecca Tumawu.

“Ten Changfang machines, two unregistered PNE, and Apsonic tricycles and motorbike with registration numbers M-24-NR 6010, and M-23-UW 4413, two unregistered Haojue and Apsonic motorbikes, and six student mattresses were retrieved from the site,” it added.

The Regional Police Command reaffirms its unwavering dedication to mitigating criminal activities in the Region.
“The command further encourages the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities,’ it appealed.
