A devastating rainstorm has ripped off parts of the roofing at the Prestea Anglican Junior High School, disrupting academic activities and forcing the Ghana Education Service (GES) to order an immediate vacation for students.
The storm, which struck after school hours, tore off the roofs of the Junior High School 1 and 2 classrooms as well as the staff common room.
Books, learning materials, and furniture were soaked with water and displaced, leaving the school in a state of disarray.
Fortunately, no student was injured, as the incident occurred after classes had closed for the day.
The visibly distressed Headmistress of the school, Gifty Narh, described the ordeal and its impact on both staff and students.
“It was a terrible sight. The classrooms have been left open to the sky, and most of our teaching materials are completely ruined.
“We are appealing to authorities to come to our aid and re-roof the building as quickly as possible so that teaching and learning can resume,” she implored.
Following the incident, officials from the Prestea-Huni Valley Municipal Assembly visited the school to assess the extent of the damage.
The Municipal Education Directorate has since directed the school to vacate immediately due to the psychological impact on students.
