The on-going Thank You tour of former Vice President and 2024 NPP Presidential Candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia was nearly marred Monday afternoon in Berekum when former Assin North MP, Kennedy Agyapong and Bono Regional NPP Chairman, Baffoe Abronye clashed in Berekum.
The pair were engaged in a stunning war of words, which resulted in Kennedy Agyapong launching verbal attacks on Abronye, right in front of party leaders and executives.
It all begun when Chairman Abronye, delivering his welcome address, disagreed with Kennedy Agyapong’s proposal for amnesty to be granted to all persons who have been suspended.
Without mentioning Kennedy Agyapong’s name, Abronye said proposal was tantamount to promoting indiscipline in the party, as many people were duly suspended for various acts of misconduct.
“To grant total amnesty to such persons will be tantamount to promoting indiscipline in the NPP and I do not support that. The party needs discipline, moving forward that is why we have misconduct and it’s punishment in our constitution,” Abronye said.
Continue, Abronye also insinuated that certain people whose actions and words against the party creaty disunity and disaffection for the party, are now going round preaching unity.
Many in the room perceived that to be a verbal bullet on Kennedy Agyapong, who some party faithful believe contributed to the party’s defeat, with the NDC using his old videos against the NPP.
When it got to the turn of Kennedy Agyapong to speak, he confirmed the suspicion of many, by responding fiercely to Abronye’s disguised attacks.
“Some people don’t respect. They talk as if the NPP belongs to them. But they are small boys. When we started this party in 1992, where were they?” Kennedy Agyapong fired.
“Nobody is more fiery than Kennedy Agyapong and I can also speak my mind, but I won’t do that because I want unity.”
Despite assuring not to hit back, Kennedy Agyapong launched verbal trade against Abronye, describing him as a poor man.
“Even you poor people speak your mind and you think a rich man like me cannot speak my mind? You poor man like you want to insult me a rich man. We buy cars for you and you go round begging for money, yet you think your are a man,” Kennedy continued.
At this stage, the room was stunned, including Kennedy Agyapong’s handlers who were seen signaling him to cool down.
But he ignored them and continued his attacks on Abronye, questioning his financial contributions to the NPP.
The event continued with another former NPP Presidential aspirant, Kwadwo Poku Nsafoah speaking next to calm the situation down, before others spoke, including former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
