The National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) Deputy Director of Elections and IT, Dr. Rashid Tanko-Computer, has denied allegations that the party received funds from the National Security ahead of the December 2024 elections.
This denial follows claims by former National Signals Bureau (NSB) head Kwabena Adu-Boahene, who alleged that his outfit spent over GH¢8 million on election logistics and equipment for opposition parties.
Kwabena Adu-Boahene, in a memo addressed to the National Security Coordinator, the former NSB boss accused the Attorney-General of launching a malicious prosecution against him.
According to him, the GH¢49 million he is alleged to have embezzled from the state was used for covert national security operations.
Although Adu-Boahene didn’t specifically mention the NDC as beneficiaries of the funds, the party has nonetheless denied receiving any support from the National Security prior to last year’s elections.
“On authority, I’m telling you the NDC has nothing to do with what came out of that story.
“Those people they’re referring to supported them during their recent demonstration. He knows his partners—that’s who he was referring to. And I’m sure everybody has seen that. My opponent would give me resources to defeat him in an election? Does that make sense?” asked Tanko-Computer on JoyNews Friday, May 9, 2025.
He further stated that the other political parties were often at odds with the NDC’s positions, and weren’t particularly focused on ousting the NPP from office.
Tanko-Computer explained that their reactions at IPAC meetings demonstrated their lack of readiness to work together with the NDC to unseat the NPP.
“When we were in IPAC, anytime the NDC opposed the EC and NPP, those parties sided with the EC and NPP. The NDC has nothing to do with this. We fought hard, used our own resources, and dealt a heavy blow to the NPP.”
When asked if the NDC could have secretly received funds from the NSB, he denied it, saying it never happened.
“I can speak on authority—it’s not possible at all. These guys are just clutching at straws. It won’t help them. They should go and negotiate a plea bargain, otherwise he [Adu-Boahene] could be looking at 25 years. The party has no business with whatever rubbish is coming out—we are not part of it,” he added.
He stated further that the Attorney-General’s efforts to prosecute Mr. Adu-Boahene was a right call.
