The Ghana Police Service has announced the safe return of two women who were kidnapped in Nigeria after they were lured with marriage proposals.

The Ghana Police Service, in collaboration with the National Signals Bureau (NSB) and the Nigeria Police Force on May 1, 2025 successfully rescued Evelyn Serwaa Konadu and Anatasia Baidoo from three kidnappers in Nigeria.

A viral footage captured the two women in distressed state, with the kidnappers torturing them and demanding ransom of GH₵500,000 for each of the women.

At a media briefing on Friday, May 9, 2025, Director General of the Criminal Investigation Department, DCOP Lydia Yaako Donkor confirmed that the women were received at the Kotoka International airport in the morning.

She said both women are in stable condition and will receive the necessary medical attention after which they will go through standard police procedures to provide their accounts to assist with ongoing investigations.

“As we stated then, arrangements were underway to safely transport the victims back to Ghana. I am pleased to confirm that, earlier this morning, my team and I received the victims at Kotoka International Airport,” the police said.

The Ghana Police Service noted it remains steadfast in its core mandate of crime prevention, detection, apprehension, prosecution and committed to ensuring that Ghana remains a safe and secure place for all.

The police further cautioned against online romance scam and advised the public against the sharing of personal information to strangers.

“We would also like to take this opportunity to alert the general public to a concerning rise in romance scams and other forms of online fraud. We urge everyone to exercise heightened caution when interacting with unknown persons online. Please refrain from sharing personal or financial information and report any suspicious behavior to the Police immediately,” they advised.
