Two persons have been confirmed dead with two others sustaining injuries in a road crash involving two cargo trucks at Asuboi on the Accra – Kumasi Highway in the Eastern region.
The crash involved a Hyundai truck with registration number GX 7359-14 and a KIA Rhino with registration number GX 857-16.
The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) in a statement says firefighters from the Suhum Municipal Fire Station rescued the trapped victims after responding to a distress call on Saturday, July 18, 2026.
It says the station received the distress call at 9:01 a.m. and dispatched a six-member rescue team, led by Station Officer I Antwi Forson, at 9:03 a.m. and arrived at the scene 10 minutes later.
Firefighters used hydraulic extrication equipment to free the victims trapped in the mangled vehicles before handing them over to personnel from the Ghana Ambulance Service and the Ghana Police Service for transport to the Suhum Government Hospital.
Preliminary investigations says the KIA Rhino, which was travelling from the Upper West Region to Accra, suffered a front tyre burst, causing the driver to lose control and crash into the Hyundai truck ahead.
The accident involved four people, two of whom died, while the remaining two sustained injuries and were rushed to hospital.
Both vehicles sustained extensive damage. The Hyundai truck’s front end was badly damaged, while the KIA Rhino’s front section and one of its tyres were completely destroyed.
Personnel from the Suhum Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service and the Ayensuano District Ambulance Service also responded to the incident.
