Seven people have died and 21 others sustained injuries in a fatal road crash on the Hwideim-Acherensua Highway in the Ahafo Region.
The accident occurred on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, and involved a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter bus, registration GT-9931-09, and a Kia Picanto, registration BA-731-20.
Preliminary investigations by the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) indicate that the Sprinter suffered a tyre burst, causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle.
The vehicle subsequently somersaulted and crashed into the Kia Picanto.
Firefighters from the Hwideim District Fire Station responded to the incident and rescued the victims.
The injured were subsequently transported to St Elizabeth Hospital in Hwideim for medical attention.
The Ahafo Regional Commander of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), ACFO II Samuel Ferdie Tetteh, later visited the injured at the hospital and wished them a speedy recovery.
The GNFS has not provided further details on the identities of those who died or the current condition of the injured.
