The overlord of Mamprugu Kingdom, Nayiri Naa Bohagu Mahami Abdulai Sheriga has urged President John Mahama to address key challenges in the North East Region.

During a significant address, the overlord of the Mamprugu kingdom, Nayiri Naa Bohagu Mahami Abdulai Sheriga, expressed his gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama for his recent visit to the North East region.

This visit was part of a thank you tour by the President aimed at acknowledging the support and trust he received during the 2024 general elections.
Throughout the tour, President Mahama engaged with various stakeholders, including chiefs, clergy, and citizens, fostering a spirit of unity and collaboration within the region.

The Nayiri articulated pressing concerns regarding key issues affecting the region, beginning with the critical absence of a regional hospital in Nalerigu.

He emphasized that the lack of such a facility poses significant health risks to the local population and urged President Mahama to prioritize the establishment of a regional hospital. The Nayiri underscored that this facility would greatly enhance healthcare access and improve the overall well-being of the community.

Addressing infrastructural challenges, the Nayiri specifically requested that key roads leading to the various districts in the North East Region be prioritized for improvement, he was more emphatic on the roads within Nalerigu township. He highlighted that enhancing these key roadways would facilitate better connectivity and foster economic growth across the entire region, ultimately benefiting all citizens.

Nayiri in his address applauded President Mahama’s move in restoring peace in Bawku and his trust in the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu to lead peace initiatives in Bawku.

He urged decisive actions from the President to restore lasting peace, acknowledging the pivotal role that security and stability play in fostering development and progress in the region.


The Nayiri also voiced concerns regarding the ongoing security issues in Bawku. He pleaded with President Mahama to ensure that security measures are effectively enforced to safeguard both factions in the region. The Nayiri emphasized the necessity of providing escort services for individuals traveling in and out of Bawku, as a means of ensuring their safety and stability in the area.

On the educational front, the Nayiri made a compelling case for the inclusion of the Nalerigu College of Nursing in the government’s plans for educational upgrades, specifically requesting that the institution be empowered to award degrees.

He also called for increased investment in infrastructure for the newly established nursing schools in Walewale and Yagaba Kubori. This request underscores the importance of advancing educational opportunities for the youth in the area, equipping them with vital skills necessary for success in the healthcare sector.

The Nayiri’s address not only highlights the concerns of his people but also reinforces the collaborative spirit of the President’s Thank You Tour, as he seeks to engage with the community and work towards their betterment.
