An injury-time penalty by perennial goalscorer Kwame Opoku gave Asante Kotoko a 2-1 win over Division One side Golden Kick SC in the final of the 2024/25 MTN FA Cup.
Opoku had put the Porcupine Warriors ahead in the first half at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium but the hitherto giantkillers equalised with barely 10 minutes to the break.
Bless Eve’s free kick beat Mohammed Camara in post to put his side back into the game.
With the match heading to extra time, referee Bless Yao Selorm called for an infringement in the penalty area of Golden Kick.
After a temporary protest by Golden Kick’s players against that call, play resumed.
With utmost composure, Opoku slotted the ball at the back of the net to win the day for the Ghana Premier League side.
It delivers the 2024/25 trophy to Abdul-Karim Zito’s men, booking them Ghana’s sole ticket for the 2025/26 CAF Confederation Cup.
