Former Vice President and 2024 NPP presidential candidate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has met all 47 Constituency Chairmen in the Ashanti Region on June 21.

Also present at the meeting were other party executives in the region

Dr Bawumia visited the party’s stronghold to reactivate his presidential ambition as he engaged the grassroot members.

He has so far engaged some identifiable groups, including the Tertiary Students Confederacy (TESCON), the students’ wing of the opposition party.

Sources at his camp indicate that “the groups have pledged their massive support for him.”

Dr Bawumia officially announced his bid for the 2028 flagbearership to the executives and solicited their support.

“He has asked for party unity” a source told Evans-Nkum.

Over the week, over 60 Members of Parliament from the Minority also visited his office in Accra to affirm their support for the former flagbearer of the party.

In a video that has already gone viral on social media, lawmaker for Akuapem North Sammi Awuku is heard telling a journalist, “We are here to hear to see his Excellency and also have a discussion with him as far as the presidential primary is concern and also hear from him if it is something that he is considering.”

Commenting on this matter on his Facebook page, a spokesperson of Dr Bawumia, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, said, “DMB remains our fastest path to election 2028 victory.”

The National Executive Council (NEC) of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has set Saturday, January 31, 2026, for its Presidential primaries.

This is the outcome of a NEC meeting held on June 17.

The meeting, held at the Alisa Hotel in Accra, was used to deliberate on proposed constitutional reforms by the Prof Mike Oquaye committee.
