A leading member of the Movement for Change, Richard Sumah, has called for full prosecution of any individuals found culpable in the controversial National Cathedral project following an ongoing forensic audit.
Mr. Sumah, in an interview with Helen Appiah-Ampofo on July 21, urged the government to demonstrate real accountability, stressing that even former President Nana Addo Akufo-Addo and members of the National Cathedral Board should face the law if found guilty.
“Following the forensic audit investigation, any person found guilty must be prosecuted, including the National Cathedral Board and former President Akufo-Addo. We cannot allow thievery and corruption to continue,” he said.
The Movement for Change senior communicator also took a swipe at members of the clergy who served on the Board of Trustees of the National Cathedral project, accusing them of choosing convenience over conviction.
“Men of integrity are men who follow conviction and not convenience, but all the pastors and reverend men of God who were on the Board were following convenience, not conviction. If they were following conviction, then they should have told former President Nana Akufo-Addo the wrong he was doing,” he said.
Richard Sumah also described the National Cathedral project as a symbol of misplaced priorities in the face of widespread hardship in the country.
“In a country of insufficient jobs, food, health facilities, security, and everything, that is so absurd. Why have we wasted 97 million US dollars just to dig a hole?,” he queried.
