The Member of Parliament for Ablekuma North, Ewurabena Aubynn, has been sworn in by the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin.

The brief swearing in took place on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, in Parliament where she was made to take the Oath of Office as an MP and the Oath of Allegiance.

Before she was sworn in, the Minority Members of Parliament walked out refusing to partake in the swearing in.

This was after the Minority Chief Whip, Frank Annoh-Dompreh wanted to make a preliminary comment, but was not allowed.

Speaker Bagbin said he can only make any statement after Ewurabena Aubynn has been sworn in.

But Annoh-Dompreh objected and said if that’s the case, the Minority MPs cannot take part in the swearing in of Aubynn.

Ewurabena Aubynn was declared winner of the Ablekuma North Constituency parliamentary election on Friday, July 11, 2025 after she secured a total of 34, 090 votes.

Her closest contender, Nana Akua Afriyie of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) polled 33,881 votes across all 281 polling stations. The total votes cast stood at 68,382, with 411 ballots rejected.

The declaration was made after a rerun of the election in 19 polling stations where over 6,000 eligible voters were expected to cast their votes.

Turnout was however low. Ewurabena Aubynn’s win ended the NPP’s 28-year stronghold setting the tone for the NDC to grab the opportunity to retain the seat.

The rerun became necessary following disagreement between the NDC and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) over discrepancies in results from some 37 polling stations.

After prolonged discussions, the Electoral Commission to rerun the election at 19 out of the 37 polling stations. The NPP protested the decision and proceeded to apply to the High Court for Injunction.

The injunction was dismissed, paving way for the conduct of the election. Despite sporadic incidents of violence, the election was largely peaceful.
