The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin has re-called Parliament to sit from Monday, August 24 to Friday, August 28, 2026 to consider urgent parliamentary business.
In a statement issued by the Speaker’s Office on Wednesday, August 12, it said the Speaker exercised the power conferred on him under Order 58(4) of the Standing Orders of Parliament to direct the recall.
The Speaker said Parliament would sit during the period to consider “urgent business.”
The recall comes while Parliament is on recess, with lawmakers expected to return to the Chamber for the scheduled five-day sitting.
The notice was signed by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin.
The House went on recess on July 31, 2026 for MPs to take a break and resume later.
It is presumed that one of the businesses to be considered as the House is recalled from recess would be the vetting of the new appointed Ministers; Mahama Ayariga and Dr. Zanetor Agyeman Rawlings by President Mahama as well as the reconsideration of the anti-LGBTQ bill.
