Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwame Governs Agbodza has disclosed that President Mahama has resolved to accord existing road projects the same priority as projects under the Big Push programme.
He noted that these projects will also be funded within the same framework of the Big Push Programme.
The Minister made the disclosure in an interview on TV3’s Hot Issues, Sunday, August 3, 2025.
“The President says that though these projects were awarded by the previous administration. The importance of this project means that we cannot wait so we should prioritise them the same way his own flagship Big Push projects are prioritized.
“So, we renovate those contracts unto a Big Push and put them under the same funding. If you go to Kumasi, the Interchange that is supposed to be built there which has stalled because it is a supplier’s credit and then we can’t find the money, we are taking on that project as additional Big Push project so that we can financed them within the same framework,” he stated.
The Minister noted that “there are two or three categories that we are prioritizing currently. The original Big Push project, the project we are novating unto Big Push project which has been started.”
The “Big Push” programme is a four-year initiative aimed at addressing critical infrastructure needs across key sectors such as health, education, and transportation.
The fund, introduced by President John Mahama during the 2024 election campaign, is designed to finance impactful projects that will boost economic growth and create jobs.
During the 2024 election campaign, the “Big Push” was touted as a solution to Ghana’s growing infrastructure challenges. It promised to complete delayed projects, initiate new ones, and strengthen local industries such as construction, positioning them as a driving force behind national development.
He added that government has not abandoned existing road projects initiated by the previous NPP administration.
